Greetings again everybody! This is my last trip out to another country in asia for the year. This time I went to Taipei in Taiwan. Thus completing the three cheapest places to fly to from Japan (korea, guam and taipei).
Now I know what alot of you are thinking... SARS!!! yep, but I don't care, I went anyways. haha. check out the pictures below, the second is the infrared sars lookout cam or something. When i got off the plane I once again made some friends with some traveling japanese guys. they were transfering planes to go on their way to Amsterdam. IINA!! ikitai! so we became friends easily for obvious reasons. they had 10hrs to kill at the airport so we chilled for a bit. I had to wait anyhow because I was meeting my friend from Toronto that moved back to Taiwan. Her and her friends were pretty late but that's ok, gave me the chance to check out all the maps and get informed about the craziness I was about to jump into. |
After meeting my friend and her friends, we took the hour long bus trip to my hotel in Taipei.. The scenery was beautiful! The island of taiwan has really gorgeous sights, too bad I only stayed in the city. but the mountains are awsome! narrow but tall. and many of them. Getting into the city was nice. lots and lots of poeple just like the rest of asia. cool thing about Taipei though is that they have alot of temples and such in a bunch of places so nice monuments are easy to spot. Not so much like that in Korea and Tokyo. Getting to my hotel was pretty funny. I was happy to be on the 10th floor but the view was halarious. I had this huge building right in front of me that was under construction. huge windows to view it too. hahaha... but I didn't care. the view I had in korea was that of a back alley so whatever, only going to sleep here and I do that with my eyes closed. We quickly made it off to the Shilin night market to get something to eat. |
Experiencing the Taipei subway system was nice. because it was different than other countries. Pretty clean for a major city train system! and station platforms are pretty wide and roomy. inside was just clean. but as far how complicated it was, theres still quite a few lines but nothing too confusing. We made our way north a few stations to Shilin Night Market. One the places I definately wanted to visit. Here there is just a bunch of everthing! but mainly we went for food. and it was goooooooood! Taiwan is known for their good food. many people say that they have the best chinese food in the world. they might be right, the food was really good. nice to have my friends along to help me pick what to eat or else I would have never tried some of the good stuff. Inside the market was nuts, so many people and sooooo hot because of all the steam cooking off everywhere. but the food was really good! and cheap! it didn't cost us much money at all to get completely full. for about 10 dollars CAN I ate until I thought my stomach was going to explode. |
We then headed off to the actual market section where people sold just about anything. Clothing, accessories, general crap, whatever. So I bought a few souvenirs. There were also temples right in the middle of the backstreets part of the market. After the whole market thing, being it also saturday night. It was time for me to go to a nightclub! None of my friends wanted to go with me saying they were too tired or something. I dunno, I guess they're not really the clubbing types. but me being on another little adventure, I just can't resist. So my friend suggested I go to a place called 2nd Floor somewhere downtown. So I went back to the hotel, freshened up and headed down for some sweet bumping house music. The club was wicked! Good suggestion! European/American style club in the middle of Taipei. The club goers were from everywhere! half locals and half foreigners. The on screen video they had was dope, and the music was just hard and funky enough for me to completely bust down to. Sure I'm all by myself but I don't care. Got drunk and had a blast! too bad I'm not there by the end of the month because Nick Warren was gonna be there. dam. that'd be cool if I landed on that night. (I took a bunch of pictures and video inside 'cause it was so good but the security guy made me erase everything and I almost lost my camera. that would suck so hard if that happened). On the way back to the hotel, I decided to take a couple quick shots. yes they have them here too. the only thing I didn't take a picture of was starbucks. |
